Think Outside The Box For Unique Auction Items

outsideAs you set out to secure items for auction, you probably have some questions. What types of items should I ask for? What will sell best? Will I get enough items to meet my fundraising goals?

These questions are normal, even if you are a pro at “the ask”. So now is the time for some creative thinking. Create a wish list with your solicitation team, so you know what to ask for when you approach potential donors. You can even share that list with possible donors via email. Here are five ideas for auction item packages to get your wish list started.

Free Membership Pass:  If your non-profit organization is in the recreation or sporting area, arrange for winning bidder to be given membership to the sports or recreational areas such as the swimming pool or fitness room.

Private Tours of Area Attractions:  Arrange for a private, off peak tour for a group of people to a private gallery, historical site or other renowned landmarks. This package could include a meal as well.

Spirit Wear Package:  Local college or university libraries/bookstores are willing to donate apparel with the college or university emblem. You could bundle several such items together to appeal to a current or a prospective student, or their parent.

A Semester’s Books:  Organize with the bookstore for local colleges and universities to donate ‘one semester worth of books’ for students. The cost of these books are a major concern for students and parents – Great for an auction with education ties!

Special Party Locations:  Beautiful settings on your organization’s property can be a great option for auctions. Offer the winning bidder the use of facilities for their event.
